- Lake Okeechobee, Florida: the category 4 storm hit Lake Okeechobee in September 1928 and killed 1,836
- Hurricane Katrina: the most deadliest storm since the millenium devastated the gulf coast in August 2005 and took away 1,336 or more lives.
- Florida Keys: the September 1935 category 5 storm, the most intense to touchdown on U.S. mainland killed 423
